DescriptionUp to 6 awards in this highly prestigious and competitive program will be offered for the 2011-2012 academic year to students who show academic excellence, leadership potential and the ability to be cultural ambassadors for the U.S. in Colombia. Recent B.S./B.A. graduates, master’s and doctoral candidates conduct research and enroll in graduate level coursework in Colombian universities and institutions for a period of 10 months. Grantees plan their own programs of study and research projects, and arrange their own institutional affiliations within the Colombian universities and organizations.
AreasAll fields of study are eligible. However, security concerns may preclude projects considered especially sensitive or that could pose risks to the researcher. Applicants wishing to conduct research activities are also advised that certain rural areas of the country may be designated as restricted areas for security reasons
RequirementsU.S. citizenship. Dual U.S.-Colombian citizens are ineligible.
Hold a B.S. or B.A. degree, or be currently enrolled in a master’s or Ph.D. program.
Proficient spoken and written Spanish.
Arrange own placement at an accredited Colombian university and research institute or organization.
Must be in Colombia during the academic year, August-May.

Previous Fulbright ExperiencePreference will be given to qualified candidates who have not had substantial recent experience in the country to which they are applying. Exceptions will be made only in rare and compelling circumstances.
