Motivational Letter, to do's and don'ts in the making

,

Hello friends, this time we will talk about one of the requirements and perhaps one of the most important when applying or participating in a call for grants, "the letter of intent, presentation or trial." The motivation letter is an important step for the PhD scholarship application, Master, see Erasmus Programs like this one aspect that highlights an applicant from another.

One of the prerequisites, and perhaps give you an advantage over other applicants, if it is done well, is the letter of intent, presentation or essay. Most, if not all, calls for grants requested as a condition the preparation of this letter is nothing more than a document in which we present our interests, our goals and something very important to point out the scholarship for which we are participating in training and contribute to our achieving our goals. This document is the opportunity to appear before the selection committee, to highlight information that can not be included elsewhere on the application, also evidenced the ability to express, to write, maturity, the motivations are of do a postgraduate, passion, leadership skills, among others.

The following are some recommendations to follow to write a good essay or letter of intention:
  • Answer the questions asked: At some institutions or universities establish a series of three questions to be answered in preparing the document, do not rely avoid using the same letter of application to all notices which show, do one at a time.
  • Try telling a story: Try to enrich your letter with concrete experiences, the worst thing you can do the boring the selection committee.
  • Find or establish points of view: It is important to find a "hook" through which hold the attention of readers of our menu, so you can search for points of view or use different viewpoints to enrich the ideas that these pose.
  • Focus on your opening paragraph: The opening paragraph of our essay or letter is the starting point to entice the reader, therefore we must pay close attention to how it's going to be drafted, never lose sight of this paragraph often depends on the intention to continue reading the document.
  • Do not be afraid to say what you know: In the middle of the letter or essay, which is focus on detailing your interest in the field of study and what is the experience you have in it. Use any experience or have had contact with the field in which you speak fluently, such as seminars, books, practices, classes, or any other source of information to which you had access and which may be related to the subject .
  • Avoid the use or mention of some issues: There is some information that is not so relevant at the time of drafting the document, for example talk about experiences that happened before high school, or talk about controversial topics like religion or politics.
  • Make sure you write: Never goes without saying that it is necessary to check the spelling, syntax, the use of punctuation. Take your time to meticulously review of the letter or document to verify that is well written. Recalls the need to express yourself clearly and concisely.
  • Avoid the most use of "clichés": Try to avoid the most use of "clichés" such that everyone always says and uses, must be original and stand out from the crowd.

To supplement this information then a short list of issues to consider and mistakes to be avoided when writing the essay or cover letter, read them carefully and keep in mind:

Aspects to consider ...

  1. Try to make sense or guidance to your essay or letter of intent, everything must revolve around a main idea
  2. Before you start writing you should choose the topic on which you want to talk, form and order which will expose the ideas.
  3. Use concrete examples of experience you have gained throughout your life to support your ideas, this is the best way to distinguish yourself from other applicants. Note that it is not describing your experience, but to evaluate it.
  4. Write about what interests you on what you love and you excited.
  5. Attention to the opening paragraph, this is very important, so try to attract attention through an anecdote, a question or make a scene description.
  6. The end of your essay or letter is also very important, so remember that at this point you must draw a conclusion from your ideas expressed at the beginning and to reiterate your thesis or main idea.
  7. Check your essay as many times as necessary
  8. Ask the opinion of third parties about the trial or caste is a good idea before submitting it, your opinion can be of much criticism useful to correct some things that you yourself could not perceive.
  9. Try to correct your essay reading aloud, or grabándote and listening to the tape.
  10. Try to write clearly and concisely.

Those who should avoid ...

  1. Do not include information that does not reinforce the main idea, remember to be concise.
  2. Do not write an autobiography or itinerary.
  3. do not use clichés to begin the test or draw conclusions, avoiding phrases like "Let me introduce myself, my name is ...", "First of all I would like to thank the admissions committee for reading this letter ..." " I was born in the village of ... "," my parents are ... ".
  4. Do not try to be a clown (you can use humor but not in an exaggerated form)
  5. Do not be afraid to start over if the essay or letter you have written so far does not convince you at all or does not answer clearly the central idea.
  6. Do not try to impress your readers with your vocabulary, avoid using technical language or very uncommon words.
  7. Do not rely on the word processor of your computer will check spelling, tomato work also do it yourself (remember "wing and" are well written so the program does not correct them but never mean the same thing).
  8. Do not use gimmicky formats and examples on the network or packages that are available for purchase.
  9. Do not complain about the circumstances of your life, try to be positive.
  10. Not to mention money as a motivator, nor state that wants to go home quickly.

Well folks, here are some tips to make the time of writing his essay or letter of intent to succeed, it is important to remember that these documents establish that drives us to further study and a board that gave me a very dear friend lily, "Establish clear they will do with that knowledge when they return home, as advantage to improve conditions and contribute to the development of their region or country" for no reason ... never say you want to leave the country in living, who are tired of a situation that live there, be positive and focus all their efforts to highlight their qualities, strengths and desires to contribute their own development and the region where they live.

Many greetings, and successes.
